North County Inland Communities
Carmel Mountain Ranch Community Profile
Although most Inland Corridor communities are known for their tract homes and quiet parks, Carmel Mountain Ranch had been developed into the perfect blend of commercial and residential life. While some of the community’s roughly 12,000 residents are busy raising families, many residents are young, working professionals.
Carmel Mountain Ranch houses two Elementary Schools, each belonging to the Poway Unified School District - Shoal Creek, opened in 1998, and Highland Ranch, in 1992. Although there are no middle or High Schools in the area, Carmel Mountain Ranch students make an easy transition to nearby schools in Rancho Bernardo and Poway. Located just east of Interstate15, Carmel Mountain Ranch is surrounded by Rancho Bernardo, Poway, and Sabre Springs.
For the young professionals calling Carmel Mountain Ranch home, there’s a movie theater, major shopping centers and a wide variety of restaurants serving everything from Mexican to Chinese to Italian fare.
Commercial centers like the Carmel Mountain Ranch Town Center and Carmel Mountain Ranch Plaza are also big attractions for those living outside the community. Residents flock to the area weekly to catch a flick, dine with friends or shop for clothing, books, and other merchandise.
Carmel Mountain Ranch is one of the newer communities in San Diego, with 97 percent of the housing stock constructed since 1980.
Like other communities of the Diamond Gateway, Carmel Mountain Ranch has well-educated, ethnically diverse population. Among the adult population, more than half work in management or professional fields, and 65 percent hold college degrees.
Other facilities for residents include a branch of the San Diego Library and a public Recreation Center, which is shared with the community of Sabre Springs.
Residents of Carmel Mountain Ranch enjoy a number of housing options. The area offers apartments, condominiums, and single-family homes for the middle- to upper-class.
Single detached homes make up over half of the housing in the area, with several gated communities spread throughout Carmel Mtn. Ranch.
Over 5,300 single homes, apartments, and condominiums exist in the community. The hills and mesas offer beautiful views of San Diego.
